My Journey Building an At-Home Speakeasy for Date Night
People say it, but it doesn’t dawn on you until things hit the fan or you realize you’ve been settling in to binge-watch too many Netflix shows. The realization hit me like a freight train one Sunday afternoon.
Why haven’t I been prioritizing epic date nights?
In the animal kingdom, male birds put on a dazzling display to attract their mates. To flaunt and peacock for their female counterpart. And I want to be the bold, daring guy who swoons my girl, so I went to work to transform a corner of our home into a modern speakeasy.
Surprisingly, it cost me less than the last time we had dinner and drinks out in town.
Here’s what happened:
My wife was finishing up a long day at work, which gave me a couple of hours to burn before she arrived home. With only a few hours to manifest a miracle, I started scouring the house for bed sheets, decorations, and lighting for my modern speakeasy. I rounded it up and put it in a big pile in the living room.
Then I went shopping.
A bouquet, a poppy-seed salad, and five different sushi rolls. Then I raced home like Dominic Toretto to take care of my family.
